Ha Long Bay highlighted at Vietnam Cultural Herita

The Vietnam Heritage Festival this year opened today with the theme “Ha Long – World Heritage” at the Vietnam Exhibition Culture and Art Centre in Hanoi.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport, Tran Chien Thang, the festival aims to praise Vietnam’s cultural heritage. This year’s theme is focused on the Ha Long Bay, on the ocassion of the Bay’s nomination to be one of the world’s 7 natural wonders by the New Open World organisation, with the hope that the Bay will be selected as a world wonder.

The festival has an exhibition named “Ha Long Bay – World Natural Heritage” introducing Ha Long Bay, a heritage site recognised by UNESCO. The exhibition focuses on Ha Long Bay’s special features, including its aesthetics, bio diversity and culture and history.

The exhibition also includes a photo area, with pictures taken by various photographers nationwide, and paintings by artists from Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia. It also has an area specifically highlighting Quang Ninh province.

Visitors can also vote for Ha Long Bay to be a World Wonder using the 30 computers installed at the exhibition. Moreover, to encourage voting, the organsers will roll out a draw with 20 grand prizes of two-day tours to discover the bay’s hidden charm.

Deputy Minister Tran Chien Thang says in the future, the ministry will ask UNESCO to recognise Ha Long Bay’s bio-diversity value, besides its natural value, which was recognised in 1994 and its topographic value, recognised in 2000.

The free festival runs until November 23
